Events for Friday, May 24th

Veteran Memorial Service

The Arkansas Hospice Foundation will hold the veteran memorial service “Committed to Veterans – Remembering Those Who Served” Friday, May 24th at 2pm at the Lightle Center, located at 2200 East Moore Street in Searcy.  The event will honor all veterans, past and present, and will bring attention to the significance of the Memorial Day weekend.  All veterans, their families and the general public are invited to attend this free event.  For more information, call 501-748-3303.

Benefit Concert

The Observatory Jazz Quartet will perform Friday, May 24th at The Main Street Loft, located in the third floor of the Barnett Building at 267 East Main Street in Batesville.  Doors will open at 6:30pm and the concert will begin at 7pm.  Admission is free and donations will be accepted for Maxfield Park. 

Augusta Days

The 22nd Annual Augusta Days Festival will be held through Sunday, May 26th.   Friday night there will be a Street Dance at 8pm featuring The Cummins Prison Band.  Saturday’s activities will include a pancake breakfast, a buddy bass tournament, a 1 mile fun walk, a 5K run,  fire truck rides, a parade, live boxing and more.  Saturday night’s activities will be capped off with a performance by J.R. Rogers and the All Star Band and Frank Foster.  The festival will wrap up Sunday with a community church service, the White River Duck Derby, a pet parade and a fireworks show at 9pm.

Augusta Days

The 22nd Annual Augusta Days Festival will be held through Sunday, May 26th.  Saturday’s activities will include a pancake breakfast, a buddy bass tournament, a 1 mile fun walk, a 5K run,  fire truck rides, a parade, live boxing and more.  Saturday night’s activities will be capped off with a performance by J.R. Events for Monday, May 27th 

Sanitation Department Schedule Changes

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, there will be no trash pick up or recycle routes on Monday, May 27th.  All trash routes will run one day late the week of Memorial Day.  Monday’s recycle route will run on Tuesday, May 28th.  All other recycle routes will remain the same. 

Memorial Day Ceremony

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held Monday, May 27th at 10am at the White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy.  The guest speaker will be Samuel Jeffery from Harding University.  The public is invited to attend.

Z100.7 and Searcy Parks and Recreation will sponsor Movies Under the Stars Friday, May 31st at Berryhill Park in Searcy.  The motion picture “Moana” will be shown at dusk.  There will also be food trucks and family fun.  Admission to the event is free.

Fire Department Centennial Celebration

The Jackson County School District will participate in the 2019 Summer Feeding Program.  There will be four serving locations available:  the Tuckerman Elementary School, the Freewill Baptist Church in Tuckerman, the Swifton Middle School and the Grubbs City Park.  Breakfast will be served from 7am – 8am and lunch will be served from 11:30am – 1pm Monday – Friday through Friday, August 9th.  All children will be fed for free.  Adult meals will be available for $2.00 for breakfast and $3.55 for lunch.

Business Expo

The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual Business Expo Wednesday, June 5th in the gymnasium at the Batesville Community Center.  The theme for this year’s Business Expo is “Famous Sitcoms Edition.”  The Business Expo will be open to the public from 11am – 3pm.  For more information, call 870-793-2378.

Suzanne Cox Wilson Benefit

A Benefit for Suzanne Cox Wilson will be held Saturday, June 8th at 5pm at the Amagon People Helping People Building, located on Highway 14 east of Newport.  There will be a taco supper, drink and dessert available for $10.  There will also be a live auction.  All proceeds will go to Suzanne Cox Wilson, who is battling a rare type of bladder cancer.  For more information, call 870-512-9293.

Hunter Education Class

An Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Hunter Education Course will be offered Saturday, June 29th from 8:30am – 6:30pm at the UACCB Nursing Allied Health Building, Rooms 927 and 928, located at 2005 White Drive in Batesville.  Anyone born on or after January 1, 1968 is required to complete this class in order to hunt in Arkansas.  For more information, visit www.agfc.com.

4th of July Extravaganza

Beebe’s Annual 4th of July Extravaganza will be held Saturday, June 29th beginning at 5:30pm at the Beebe Ballpark.  Shuttle service will be available from the ASU – Beebe Student Center parking lot beginning at 4pm.  There will be food, family fun, live on-stage entertainment and a fireworks show.  Admission to the event is free.

Fireworks Extravaganza

The Heber Springs Chamber of Commerce will host the 2019 Fireworks Extravaganza Saturday, July 6th at Sandy Beach on the shores of Greers Ferry Lake.  Gates will open at 10am for a fun filled day on the beach before the festivities begin.  Live music will begin at 7pm, followed by the fireworks show at 9:30pm.  Admission is free, but there is a $10 parking fee for those traveling by car.

Movies Under the Stars

Lite 106.5 and Searcy Parks and Recreation will sponsor Movies Under the Stars Friday, July 12th at Berryhill Park in Searcy.  The motion picture “Ratatouille” will be shown at dusk.  There will also be food trucks and family fun.  Admission to the event is free.

Cave City Watermelon Festival

The Annual Cave City Watermelon Festival will be held Thursday, July 25th – Saturday, July 27th.  This year’s festival will have live entertainment in the Cave City Park featuring gospel music on Thursday, July 25th; Shenandoah on Friday, July 26th and Mark Chesnutt on Saturday, July 27th.  There will also be a fishing derby, a 5K, a car show, a pancake breakfast, a parade, a free watermelon feast and more.  Admission to the festival is free.

The Annual Cave City Watermelon Festival will be held through Saturday, July 27th.  This year’s festival will have live entertainment in the Cave City Park featuring Shenandoah on Friday, July 26th and Mark Chesnutt on Saturday, July 27th.  There will also be a fishing derby, a 5K, a car show, a pancake breakfast, a parade, a free watermelon feast and more.  Admission to the festival is free.

Benefit Car & Bike Show

The Tumbling Shoals/Ida Fire Department will sponsor the Charlie Johnson Memorial Car & Bike Show Scholarship Fundraiser Saturday, October 19th from 9am – 2pm at the Heber Springs Community Center, located at 201 Bobbie Jean Lane in Heber Springs.  Entries for the car and bike show are $20 each.  Spectators can attend the show for free.  There will also be door prizes and food.  For more information, call 501-206-5636.
