Events for Friday, Jan. 24th 

Chamber of Commerce Meeting & Gala

The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2020 Annual Meeting and Gala Friday, January 24th beginning with the VIP Reception at 5:30pm at the Batesville Community Center and Aquatics Park, located at 1420 South 20th Street in Batesville.  The theme will be a “White River Lodge.”  For more information, call 870-793-2378.

 

Events for Saturday, Jan. 25th 

Benefit Marathon and Half Marathon

The 2020 Team Loco Marathon and Half Marathon will be held Saturday, January 25th beginning at 6:30am at Tucker Creek Trail in Conway.  This event is a laid back race with ample aid station support every half mile.  Awards will be given to males and females who are the top three finishers for each distance.  The entry fee is $40 for either race.  All participants who register in time will receive shirts.  Proceeds will benefit Arkansas Hospice. 

Introduction to Beekeeping Class

A free Introduction to Beekeeping Class will be held Saturday, February 1st from 9am – 3pm at First Electric Co-op, located at 150 Industrial Park Road in Heber Springs.  The class is free, but you must register by Saturday, January 25th.  For more information, call 501-825-7110.

Clothing and Blanket Distribution

The Searcy Adventurers Guild will host a Winer Clothing and Blanket Distribution Sunday, January 26th at 12 noon at Berryhill Park in Searcy.  They will be distributing coats, clothing and blankets to anyone in need for free with no questions asked.  If anyone in the community would like to donate items for the distribution, they will gladly accept any coats, jackets, blankets, sweaters, gloves, socks and hand warmers.

Blood Drive

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, January 28th from 12 noon – 4pm at Arkansas State University, located at 7648 Victory Boulevard in Newport.  For more information, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Humane Society Benefit

The Independence County Library will be accepting donations for the animals at the Humane Society during the month of January.  The Humane Society needs pet supplies, especially puppy and kitten chow, litter, towels and rubber gloves.  Donations can be dropped off in the box in the entryway of the library, located at 267 East Main Street in Batesville. Conservation District Board Position

If you are interest in running for a position on the Independence County Conservation District Board you must be a registered voter, own land and reside in the district and submit a nominating petition by Saturday, February 1st.  For more information, you can stop by the district office located at 490 East College Street in Batesville or call 870-793-4164 extension 3.

 

Events for Saturday, February 1st 

Benefit 5K/10K

The 2020 Freezin’ for a Reason 5K/10K and Lap for Life will be held Saturday, February 1st beginning at 9am.  The event will begin and end at the Conway High School West Campus, located at 2300 Prince Street in Conway.  Entry fees will be $35 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K, $30 for a Spirit Runner and $15 for the Lap for Life.  Proceeds will benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  

Polar Plunge

The Batesville Community Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Arkansas will be held Saturday, February 1st at the Batesville Community Center and Aquatics Park.  Registration will begin at 10am.  Awards and the plunge will begin at 11am.  The minimum donation to plunge is $50.  All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Arkansas. 

 

Events for Tuesday, February 4th 

Youth Soccer Registration

Searcy Youth Soccer Spring Registration will be held Tuesday, February 4th from 5:30pm – 7pm at the Carmichael Community Center, located at 801 South Elm Street in Searcy.  If you already registered in the fall, you won’t need to register again.  The registration fee for children born from 2014 – 2016 is $80.  The registration fee for children born from 2012 – 2013 is $100.

Informational Meeting

An Informational Meeting on Quilting, Sewing and Crafting will be held Thursday, February 6th at 10am at the Old Independence Regional Museum, located at 380 South 9th Street in Batesville.  This meeting is free and open to the public.  For more information, call 870-793-2121.

Heber Springs Chamber Banquet

The 64th Annual Banquet of the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will be held Thursday, February 6th at 5:30pm at The Barn at Pine Mountain, located at 2075 Goff Road in Quitman.  Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin will be the guest speaker.  For more information, call 501-362-2444.

Winter Gala

The Main Street Batesville Winter Gala will be held Friday, February 7th at 6:30pm in the Main Street Loft, located at 267 East Main Street in Batesville.  This year’s event will feature a “Roaring 20s” theme.  Guests are urged to dress in 20s-inspired fashion.  There will be food, live and silent auctions, costume contests, dancing and live music.  Tickets are $35 each.  All proceeds will benefit Main Street Batesville.  For more information, visit www.mainstreetbatesville.org.

 

Events for Saturday, February 8th 

International Food Fest

The 12th Annual International Food Fest and Silent Auction will be held Saturday, February 8th at the St. James Catholic Church Parish Hall, located at 1102 Pioneer Road in Searcy.  The auction will begin at 5:30pm and food will be served at 6:30pm.  Tickets can be purchased at the St. James Catholic Church Office.  Advance tickets are $15.  Tickets at the door will be $20.  For more information, call 593-6379. 

 

Events for Sunday, Feb. 9th 

Turkey Hunting Basics Class

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will offer a Turkey Hunting Basics class Sunday, February 9th from 2pm – 4pm at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center, located at 602 President Clinton Avenue in Little Rock.  Participants will learn about the needed equipment, appropriate camouflage, set-up techniques, where to hunt and the requirements to legally hunt turkeys.  The program is free, but registration is required.  To register or for more information, call 501-907-0636.

The 2020 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Arkansas will be held Friday, February 14th at the Cabot High School, located at 18 Spirit Drive in Cabot.  There will be a plunge during both lunches at 11am and at 12 noon.  All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Arkansas.

Polar Plunge

The 2020 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Arkansas will be held Saturday, February 15th at the Cabot Aquatics Park, located at 1245 Bill Foster Memorial Highway West in Cabot.  Registration will begin at 10:30am and the plunge will begin at 12 noon.  All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Arkansas.

Polar Plunge

The 2020 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Arkansas will be held Saturday, February 22nd at Days Inn, located at 3109 East Race Street in Searcy.  Registration will begin at 9:30am and the plunge will begin at 10:30am.  The minimum donation to plunge is $50.  All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Arkansas.

The 2020 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Arkansas will be held Saturday, February 22nd at Woolly Hollow State Park in Greenbrier.  Registration will begin at 11am, followed by a dessert auction will at 12 noon.  Awards and a parade will be held at 12:30pm.  The plunge will be held at 1pm.  All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Arkansas.

The 2020 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Arkansas will be held Friday, March 6th at Pioneer Stadium, located at #1 Pioneer Drive in Batesville.  The plunge will begin at 9:20am.  All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Arkansas.

Literacy Council Fundraiser

The White County Literacy Council will hold their 1st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Fundraiser Tuesday, March 17th at the White County Cooperative Extension Office, located at 2400 Old Searcy Landing Road in Searcy.  There will be a silent auction, Irish food, Irish music and dance performances.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under.  All proceeds will benefit the White County Literacy Council.  For more information, call 501-278-5000.

Benefit Car Show

All About Carz will host the 4th Annual Classics & Antiques on the Square Car Show Saturday, March 21st from 8am – 3pm on the Courthouse Square in downtown Searcy.  Registration will be held from 8am – 12 noon.  The registration fee is $20 per vehicle.  All vehicles must be classics and antiques 1995 and older year models.  There will also be music, a silent auction and food.  All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society in Searcy.

Scottish Festival

The 41st Annual Arkansas Scottish Festival will be held Friday, April 3rd – Sunday, April 5th on the Lyon College campus in Batesville.  Activities on Friday, April 3rd will include a golf tournament, The President’s Reception and The Kilted Mile.  There will be a full day of activities on Saturday, April 4th, including the Tartan Twenty Bike Ride, a Scottish breakfast, craft and food vendors, a bake sale, live entertainment, a British car show, a children’s zone, sheepdog demonstrations, Highland dancing and more.  The festival will conclude Sunday, April 5th with a worship service, live entertainment, sheepdog demonstrations, Highland dancing and the Boniest Knees Contest.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Scottish Festival

The 41st Annual Arkansas Scottish Festival will be continue Saturday, April 4th and Sunday, April 5th on the Lyon College campus in Batesville.  There will be a full day of activities on Saturday, April 4th, including the Tartan Twenty Bike Ride, a Scottish breakfast, craft and food vendors, a bake sale, live entertainment, a British car show, a children’s zone, sheepdog demonstrations, Highland dancing and more.  The festival will conclude Sunday, April 5th with a worship service, live entertainment, sheepdog demonstrations, Highland dancing and the Boniest Knees Contest.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Easter Egg Hunt

Jacksonville’s largest Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 4th at Excell Park, located on Ray Road in Jacksonville.  All participants must arrive by 10am.  There will be egg hunts with 2,000 eggs per age group for ages toddler up to 10 years old.  The event is free and open to the public.  In the event of rain, the egg hunt will be moved to the Jacksonville Community Center.  For more information, call 501-982-4171.

Scottish Festival
